On 17 June 2017, the 15th BDO European Football Tournament took place in the Czech Republic and once again the number of teams taking part was a record. A total of 40 teams were present, comprising around 410 players and supporters, with 31 men’s teams and the 9 ladies teams. Teams came from Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, England, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Netherlands, Georgia, Greece, Poland and Romania.
The tournament was held at the Czech National Sports Training Centre at Nymburk, approximately 50 kilometres outside Prague. As many as nine matches played simultaneously on perfect natural grass pitches which had been specially prepared for the BDO tournament.
The Ladies trophy was won for the second year running by the Netherlands. The Ladies Consolation Cup was won by Austria. The ladies’ player of the tournament was won by Chezia Di Giacomo, team Italy’s number 5. The Ladies tournament is a growing success, from 2 teams in the beginning to 9 teams this year.
The quality of the men’s teams was very high this year and the matches among the last 16 of the BDO Cup were all hard fought.
The final was between France 1 and Oslo 1. The quality of both teams was excellent and the standard of the final was very high. Oslo 1 had their best team in many years with several very good players. Their number 25 in particular, Anders Myrseth Amundsen, won the Men’s Player of the tournament award. Oslo 1 dominated the match and won.
After the tournament a party was held for all the players and fans in Prague. Everyone gathered at the Obcanska Plovarna club and the victorious teams received their prizes. Once again a special Fair Play award, sponsored by the BDO Global Office, was presented to the team which, in the opinion of the judges, played in the most sporting manner. This was won by the popular German team.
Once again the tournament was a great success and we are already looking forward to the 2018 tournament. Well done, teams!
